This has become a favorite here at the house. Nice 12" size. The more you look the more you see. Very detailed craters and seas/plains are marked and named.
This is a deceptively nice globe. This is not a flash in the pan gift and might be ignored at first but if picked up, it will spark the imagination. East and west terminators are marked so you know when you've reached the "DARK SIDE" Luke. As it sets on the shelf at a distance it appears a monotone silvery gray-green unremarkable globe.
I had no idea so many famous names were used for objects on the moon. A gift that gets better over time. This is a free standing globe that sets on a clear plastic stand. Looks and feels like a quality globe.This globe is meant to be picked up and held.
Perhaps they did this so that the writing would stand out. Still it is much better than the only other moon globe I am aware of available new (a smaller model with even poorer reproduction of perfectly good artwork).Perhaps because there isn't as much interest in the moon nowdays noone can afford to put out the amazing older globes I've heard of. The main problem with this globe is you really cant see any of the features from a distance, it looks like a grey ball which isn't much of an ornament. Its a pity because the artwork appears to be outstanding, perfect. I don't regret buying it, I've made the darkish features darker with a pen, it's ok. You have to be very close to it to see the features. The reason for this is only light shades (no black or very dark shades) are used, so there is very little contrast.
